Day 35 - 01/08/20 - It's all over 😌
Thursday and Friday were quite relaxed for me. I had a bit of admin to do and to keep myself from turning into the stone man I ran 7/8km each day.
On the Friday my legs felt like lead so was glad for a wee rest that evening before the last wee bit of my walk.
Saturday came fast and I was up early to prep and get on the road. I drove up to Cavehill Country Park at the back of the cavehill and parked up.
As I was walking up to the top of the hill there was a flash of realism as it dawned on me that this was actually it! Today was actually the last day of walking.
As usual it was overcast but warm and the sun shone through every now and again. The view from the top of the hill of Belfast, Newtownabbey and Belfast Lough was fantastic. I got talking to quite a lot of people throughout the two hours I was walking which was great and I even got a donation at the top of the hill 😁👍🏻.
Walking down the other side of the hill was easy enough, even though the paths were sometimes quite small and at a point I got slightly navigationaly challenged!! 😏
I did eventually find the path that brought me down beside the zoo and back out onto the Antrim road.
Then a quick walk to the O'Neill road, where the Hospice is located and that was me 😁. Just the final 6km today 😃.
There was maybe 12-15 people waiting for me there which was lovely. We had a quick weight in -boots off - were I weighed in at 70.25kg losing just 2.5kg during the whole walk! Yes, I was munching everything everywhere I went 😆.
And you'll never guess who won the prize?? My parents 🤔😆😆.
They however kindly donated it to the next closest person who was Dorothy McCullough from Ballyclare. Very well done Dorothy, a mini Bluetooth speaker will be heading your direction very shortly.
So that's it! The end 😪. Well for now at least. I wasn't sure about the whole blogging thing but actually got into it and really enjoyed it.
So much so that I think I'll keep this page live and as and when I take on other challenges, adventures or daft trips I'll write a wee blog to let yous all know 😁.
I'd like to thank everybody who donated to the Childrens Hospice whether it be via Just Giving, in cash or by cheque you are all absolute stars and Thankyou from the bottom of my heart.
There were some very very generous donations that came in and it seems like I inspired a lot of people who will hopefully go out and follow their own paths and inspire others.
To date (01/08/20) a total of £5,215 with just over £1k of gift aid has been raised. Thankyou all again.
I think it's safe to say that where ever and whenever I will be walking from now on I will be Walking 4 Amelia 💓.
This is Jonathan Carter signing off from walking the Ulster Way.
